In April 2006 we held a murder mystery night in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief. Ruairidh's sister Shona and her friend Kerry were raising funds to go on a sponsored walk of the Great Wall of China. The scene was set - it was 1899 and a murder was about to take place in Coddingham Hall. Just after the guests all assembled in the Hall, the police turned up to arrest the odious George Sweet who tried to evade capture but during the struggle he died of unexplained causes. Someone at the Hall was the murderer. |
| We knew when Shona asked to help with fundraising that there would be no problem trying to persuade Concept Players to get involved. But in what? Well it didn't take us long to come up with a murder mystery. Those amateur dramatics types love to dress up and show off, and sure enough they did. Everybody put on their finery, some going out to hire their Victorian costume to great effect. The food was laid on and the murder took place all to a tight schedule. Everybody entered into it with great enthusiasm though it has to be said that there was some confusion which only got worse as the night got on. People took their characters to heart and embellished on their roles. It has to be said that Captain Radcliff and Florence Sweet a.k.a Steve and Jan were very good at doing this and the maid Martha Dooley a.k.a Rhiannon was very persuasive! One of the best set of costumes must have been the ones worn by Lisa and John - their improvised policemen costumes were fantastic, even down to police dog Molly's collar fitting in with the period! |
The Inspector reads out the charges! |
| The night gathered pace with everyone desperately trying to find out who done it. Each character had a lot of information and were trading this between themselves, none more so than Dr Hammer a.k.a Fiona, who managed to make a tidy profit our of selling on the Coroner's report - an act not scripted, just proving her tricky ways! But in the end the culprit was revealed with two people including the culprit herself correctly identifying the dastardly murderer. A great night and a wonderful effort from all those there who raised over £300 for the the Macmillan Cancer Relief. Many thanks from Shona and Kerry for your hard work!
